My name is Amina Ismael. I am 19 years old and I live in Kibera slums in Makina village. I am a Nubian and currently am just idol after finishing my form four that is grade 12. My hobbies are playing football, traveling, and making new friends. I have two brothers and a sister and am the third born.
I started my primary school in 1996 and sat for my K.C.P.G. in the year 2003, where I scored 326 marks. I then joined high school in 2004 and sat for my K.C.S.E. in 2008, where I attained a mean grade of A+. One of the difficulties I have faced in life is lack of fees. This still affects me until now. Due to this I had to rewind form two after transferring to Langata High School so that I would play soccer for the school and build the school image and in exchange they paid me fees. By God’s grace, I managed to finish school in 2008. Though this difficulty is brought by the fact that I lived with a single parent, I still hope to finish my studies and get a nice job where the money will be able to bring my parents together because the main issue behind their separation in lack of money on my dad’s side.
I would like to be a nurse that joins the Kenya Medical Training College, but due to lack of fees I can’t meet my dream. But I have a great hope that one day God will do wonders and make the impossible possible.
The reasons why I chose to play soccer are three. First is due to the fact that my father was a footballer and I inherited his talent. It’s in the genes. Secondly, I enjoy the game very much compared to other games, like volleyball and netball, which is meant for girls. And lastly, in Makina it’s one of the most common games and I used it to avoid stressing myself while thinking of the problems we have at home. It also kept me away from bad companies because while others were away planning evil, I was in the field playing soccer so it helped me avoid dangerous issues like being jailed for theft or avoid early pregnancy due to avoidance of bad company.
