Sorofine Akinyi

My names are Sorofine Akinyi. I am seventeen years old. I leave in Raila Village. I am a Luo. I am schooling in Langata High School in form three. In my family we are two children, one boy and one girl. I have both parents but they are not working. My mum sells some vegetables that we survive on.

My life has never been easy but it is just a matter of surviving. I have learned through difficulties not having enough school fees before the free primary education was introduced. Even learning facilities I never had I just borrowed my friends because I also wanted to perform in my academics. I even sometimes went to school without having breakfast but I had to bear all that because I knew what my family was going through.

When I was in primary school, I admired some girls who were playing football and one day they asked me to join them. I really tried the best I can and finally I joined a soccer club, which is Carolina for Kibera. Since I started playing football it has really helped me in various ways. Before I joined football, during school holidays I used my leisure badly. I used to roam around with my friends and sometimes I was idling around. Football has really made my life brighter than before. It has made me venture many places that I never thought of. I have met new friends whom we exchanged ideas with. It has made me know who I am and how I can handle myself and other people.

I thank God so much for revealing to me my talent earlier and to use it as a weapon of making me physically fit and mentally active because even now I am learning through a football buzzary. My role in football is as a supplier. I supply balls to the strikers. I play as a mid-fielder. I enjoy playing football because I have that passion.
